Accurate measurement and computation of fluid and rock properties are prerequisites for optimal oil and gas production. Unfortunately, laboratory measurements of petroleum fluid and rock properties are often time-consuming and capital-intensive. Accurate computational methods are usually preferred to reduce costs and save time. The computational methods for estimating these properties often involve long, laborious, and complex correlations. Two third-year students at the Department of Petroleum Engineering, John Ojuu Oleka and Nii Sowah Laryea-Adjei, have developed a web application, DB Solutions, for seamlessly computing petroleum fluid and rock properties.

DB Solutions is a platform that allows students and other stakeholders to calculate petroleum rock and fluid properties by entering simple input data on the web. The application provides a comprehensive platform covering various calculations. The ultimate goal of the students is to develop a suite for performing multiple computations and visualisations ranging from Material Balance, Reservoir Fluid Properties, Drilling, Reservoir Engineering, Well Testing, Production Engineering and many more.

The application also features a chatbot integrating cutting-edge AI technology, using OpenAI and LangChain with retrieval-augmented generation. This integration aims to offer a comprehensive guide and enhance user interaction, incorporating functionalities such as giving in-depth concept explanations and calculation correction and providing links to available correlations upon prompting to foster deeper engagement and easier navigation.

DB Solutions is on the verge of providing a stress-free way of calculating reservoir fluid and rock properties, which are crucial for understanding and predicting volumetric behaviour in oil and gas reservoirs. Various correlations are now available on the website, providing users with a valuable resource. These correlations offer a reliable alternative when experimentally measured properties and laboratory experiments are unavailable.
