The Second Alumni Quarterly Meeting

The Second Alumni Quarterly Meeting of the College of Engineering provided an opportunity for alumni, faculty, and key stakeholders to reflect on the College’s progress.

Mr. Sebastian Botsyo, a Geomatic Engineering Alumnus served as moderator for the meeting. In his address to participants, the Provost, Prof. Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko commended alumni for their unwavering commitment to the growth of the College. He highlighted their significant contributions to the College of Engineering Strategic Plan, the Endowment Fund, and the establishment of the CoE Foundation in the United States. According to him, these initiatives are expected to enhance teaching, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and the overall development of students.

The major highlight of the meeting was a presentation by Dr. Yen Adams Sukama Neuyam, who introduced the College’s Net Zero Carbon Emissions Laboratory. He explained that the laboratory is dedicated to advancing research in decarbonisation, climate resilience, greenhouse gas emissions, environmental impact assessment, and sustainable development. He also outlined several of the laboratory’s flagship projects, including the assessment of Ghana’s greenhouse gas emissions, carbon intensity studies within the oil and gas industry, and the University’s own Net Zero initiative.

Dr. Sukama Neuyam went on to demonstrate innovative digital tools developed by the laboratory, including an interactive greenhouse gas emissions map of Ghana and an emissions monitoring platform for the petroleum industry. He stated that these technologies are designed to support research, inform policy development, and improve decision-making on climate-related issues. He also encouraged alumni to contribute to the long-term sustainability of the laboratory through research collaborations, mentorship, grant partnerships, and the sharing of professional expertise.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with the College and her alumni reaffirming their commitment to advancing engineering education, research, and sustainable development. Participants were encouraged to remain actively engaged in future initiatives that will contribute to the continued growth and global impact of the College.
