Thirteen students from the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering have participated in a specialised training session on productivity improvement tools in advanced manufacturing. The session, facilitated by Mr Ian Jolliffe, Senior Consultant at SMMT Quality Management Limited, UK, equipped participants with practical tools to enhance manufacturing efficiency and quality management.

The training was delivered in collaboration with IMHOGEN Ltd, an engineering design, research, and development firm focused on transforming ideas into impact through applied R&D, product and process design, and skills development for SMEs and the informal sector in Ghana and across Africa.

Following the training, Dr Frank Kwabena Afriyie Nyarko, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, led the team on a courtesy call to the Provost of the College of Engineering, Prof. Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko.
The team included Mr Benjamin Atribawani Agaaga, Assistant Lecturer, Department of Mechanical Engineering; Mr Clifford Fiannaa, Operations Lead and Chief Operating Officer, IMHOGEN Ltd; and Mr Daniel Elikem Braimah, Corporate Lead and Chief Executive Officer, IMHOGEN Ltd.

During the engagement, Mr Ian Jolliffe noted that the competencies developed during the training are transferable across multiple disciplines and industries. In response, the Provost proposed the introduction of a microcredential programme to extend these industry-relevant skills to a broader student population.
Discussions further explored current manufacturing structures and process optimisation strategies. The Provost expressed appreciation to Mr Jolliffe for his invaluable contribution to knowledge transfer and capacity building within the College.
