From March 11th to 13th, final-year Petroleum Engineering students embarked on an educational visit to Yinson’s Takoradi Base, a pivotal experience in gaining practical insights and ethical perspectives in the Oil and Gas industry. This visit provided students with an in-depth understanding of Yinson’s operations and how they compare with global oil industry practices.
Yinson is a leading provider of Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) solutions worldwide and is the owner of the John Agyekum Kufuor (JAK) FPSO in Ghana. The company operates across 20 countries, including Angola, Brazil, Chile, Brunei, Cambodia, Colombia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Peru, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam.
During the visit, students gained valuable knowledge on the role of technology in the Oil and Gas sector. Yinson is at the forefront of modular carbon capture solutions, investing in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies to promote cleaner and more sustainable oil production worldwide.
The visit also emphasized the critical importance of safety in the industry. As future engineers, students recognized the necessity of balancing energy production with environmental responsibility, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13, which focuses on reducing global carbon emissions.
This engagement reinforced the importance of technological innovation and sustainability in shaping the future of the Oil and Gas industry.
