Iddrisu Seidu holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he discovered his passion for transport and mobility research, alongside a keen interest in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). His undergraduate thesis, titled “The Effect of COVID-19 on Transport-Based Livelihoods: A Case Study of Ride-Hailing Drivers in Kumasi,” deepened his commitment to understanding and addressing real-world transport challenges. Following his undergraduate studies, he served as a Research and Teaching Assistant in the Department of Geography and Rural Development from September 2021 – September 2022, where he supported teaching and academic research in GIS and research methods.
Currently, Iddrisu is in his second year of the MPhil Transport Systems program at The Regional Transport Research and Education Center, Kumasi (TRECK), under the Department of Civil Engineering at KNUST. His ongoing thesis explores public transport accessibility and mobility challenges for Persons with Disabilities in Kumasi, highlighting his drive for inclusive urban mobility solutions. As an emerging researcher, he has authored five peer-reviewed journal articles published in reputable journals, including Taylor & Francis' African Geographical Review and Elsevier's Journal of African Transport Studies. He also presented his work at the First KNUST International Research Conference (TEKCONFAB23) in 2023.
Beyond the classroom, Iddrisu is actively involved in student leadership and advocacy. He currently serves as the Public Relations Officer of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG-KNUST), where he leads the dissemination of information and communication to graduate students. He also represents graduate students on key institutional bodies, including the University’s Strategic Planning Committee and the KNUST E-Learning Conference Planning Committee.
Inspired by the words of Martin Luther King Jr., “We may have all come on different ships, but we are in the same boat now,” Iddrisu values collaboration and is deeply committed to using knowledge, partnerships, and advocacy to drive meaningful change in transport systems and beyond.
