The Brew-Hammond Energy Centre at the College of Engineering, KNUST has conducted a hands-on training session for research assistants on the assembly and connection of a basic solar photovoltaic (PV) system.

Supervised by Dr. Elvis Twumasi, a lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, the training provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of solar energy applications. It covered essential components, including batteries, charge controllers, inverters, switches, and both AC and DC bulbs, ensuring a well-rounded practical experience.

Initiated by the Centre’s Director, Professor David Ato Quansah, the training aimed to equip research assistants with the technical skills needed to effectively guide students through practical demonstrations and technical concepts in solar PV systems. By enhancing hands-on learning experiences, the initiative reinforces the Centre’s commitment to capacity building and technical training in renewable energy.

Nana Kwabena Osei, a research assistant and participant, expressed appreciation for the training, noting its value in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

“We have studied the science and engineering of solar PV systems in class, but today’s activity provided the hands-on experience we needed to guide us through technical concepts in solar PV systems,” he said.
