It's that time of year again at the College of Engineering when students, particularly those in their third year, are required to undertake mandatory internships and vacation training. These internships are designed to immerse students in industries related to their academic programs, allowing them to gain practical skills and reinforce the theoretical concepts they've learned in class. The internship process is well-structured, with each department having a dedicated Vacation Training Officer who works in coordination with the College Vacation Training Officer. The process begins with the College issuing introductory letters to students, which they use to approach companies and apply for internships. Additionally, vacation training officers actively seek out internship opportunities with various companies, allocating these slots to students based on merit. This dual approach ensures students have ample opportunities to secure valuable industry experience.
Students are encouraged to take responsibility for applying for internships themselves, which helps them develop essential skills such as CV writing, job searching, and interview techniques. Throughout the internship period, vacation training officers monitor the students to ensure they receive relevant training, address any challenges they face, and gather feedback. At the end of the internship period, the College Vacation Training Office analyses the collected data to assess the overall success of the internships. This helps the College to continually refine and improve the internship process for future academic years. The College of Engineering wishes all students success in their vacation training and looks forward to seeing the valuable skills and experiences they will gain.
