Strategic Alumni Engagement Workshop: The College Joins the Conversation

KNUST Convenes Strategic Alumni Summit to Shape the University’s Next 75 Years

At the Library Mall on 26 February 2026, an alumni strategizing workshop was convened with a clear objective: to align alumni engagement with the long-term strategic direction of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The meeting comes as the University approaches its 75th milestone.

The high-level session brought together Executives of the KNUST Alumni Association, the Alumni Advancement and Relations Office, University management, and selected staff. In her welcome address, Vice-Chancellor Akosua Rita Dickson posed a direct challenge to the room: “Alumni, where do you want your University to be? Where do you want your University to be in the next 75 years?” The question set the tone for a forward-looking conversation.

From the onset, three priorities shaped the discussion.

First, aligning alumni efforts with the University’s strategic agenda.

Second, developing a shared and actionable framework for engagement.

Third, deepening partnerships to support long-term institutional growth.

Participants emphasized the need to move beyond dialogue. The call was for coordinated action. Alumni contributions - financial, professional, and advisory were acknowledged as central to the University’s progress. There was also a strong commitment to ensuring long-serving contributors feel valued and recognized.

A major outcome was consensus on establishing an Alumni Advancement and Relations Board which was revealed by the University Registrar, Mr. Benjamin Boampong Owusu Esq. The Board will include alumni representatives, University officials, and other stakeholders. It will guide decision-making and ensure clarity of direction. The Board will also oversee key initiatives, including the Nyansapo Dialogue Series, Tech Connect, and annual Alumni Homecomings.

Comparisons with global institutions made one point clear. KNUST does not lack alumni strength. It needs structure, coordination, and shared ownership.

The meeting closed with optimism and resolve. Participants agreed that understanding the alumni body’s past is essential to shaping its future. The vision is clear: a more organized and collaborative alumni network positioned as a strategic force in the University’s next chapter.
