College of Engineering 57th Congregation Ceremony

 

The College of Engineering 57th Congregation's ceremony was held on 11th November 2023 at the Great Hall with 1655 graduates from the three faculties of the College. Faculty of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Civil and Geo-Engineering.

 

The Provost of the College of Engineering, Prof. Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko, formally declared the assembly duly constituted, marking the ceremony's commencement.

Mrs. Kyerewaa Kuma, the moderator, invited Mrs. Ida Saeed, the College Registrar, to introduce the Valedictorian for the College, Kelvin Worlanyo Tamakloe, BSc. Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Kelvin Worlanyo Tamakloe delivered the valedictorian speech, "The Blueprint of Our Becoming." In his speech, he expressed deep appreciation for the significant contributions of his friends to his success, stressing the value of relationships and the influence of an optimistic company. He also highlighted in his speech the reflection of God's character and boundless love through friendships.

The Ceremony had motivational speakers from the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) deliver speeches Ing. Ebenezer Kofi Essienyi, Chief Executive of GRIDCo and Ing. Benjamin Ntsin, Director of Northern Network, GRIDCo, were the motivational speakers for the ceremony.

Addressing the graduates, their well-wishers, and parents, the Provost extended heartfelt congratulations for achieving this significant milestone. He provided an insightful report on the College's activities, updating stakeholders present on its progress. Expressing gratitude for the Government's substantial support, he highlighted the need for more Lecturers to meet the student-lecturer ratio mandated by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission. He also expressed his gratitude to GETFund for the ongoing construction of classroom blocks and said the College eagerly anticipates their completion.

He presented statistical data on graduates and announced that the 57th Congregation saw 1655 graduates. He also highlighted the distribution: 400 graduates with first-class honours (27%), 900 with second-class upper division (86%), 285 with second-class lower division (17%), and 7 with a pass (0.4%).

Expressing gratitude, the Provost thanked the Volta River Authority (VRA), Engineers from VRA, Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), Associated Consultants, Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and Engineers from the Ghana Water Company for their generous donations and support to the College. Additionally, he commended Prof. Ayi and Cosmas Yaw Asante, both Geomatic Engineers, for receiving the presidential award for their pivotal role in resolving the Ghana-La Cote d’Ivoire oil dispute.
