The Engineers’ Festival 2025, organised by the Ghana Engineering Students’ Association (GESA), marked a historic moment for the College of Engineering at KNUST. As the first edition of what is set to become an annual tradition, the two-week celebration was designed to spotlight the identity, creativity, and professional aspirations of engineering students beyond the classroom.
The festival officially commenced on Thursday, 24th July 2025, with an energetic launch and bonfire night. Held at the College car park, the event opened with departmental processions, live performances, and a vibrant crowd, many of whom turned up dressed in nostalgic old school fashion, giving the evening a unique and memorable character.
The lighting of the bonfire was the symbolic high point of the night, representing the start of a new culture within the college—one that embraces not only academic excellence but also identity, history, and shared experience. The night blended tradition with energy, offering students a rare moment of reflection and expression in a space beyond the classroom.
The following day, attention turned to empowerment and insight at the INSPIRE Conference, held on Friday, 25th July 2025 at the New Engineering Building. Themed “Dare to Dream: Careers Built on Confidence,” the conference featured a diverse panel of speakers who shared stories and strategies for building purposeful, impactful careers.
Speakers included Nana Darkowaa Ampem Kyerewaa II, Yamfomanhemaa of Kumasi; Candybell Afia Sika Reider Kensah, award-winning youth leader; Abiove Oyetunji, CEO of Clozar Group; Alice Yakubu, CEO of Alicetalkworld; and Kane Nana Francis, SRC President of KNUST. The event also welcomed Hon. Mike Aidoo, MP for Oforikrom, as Special Guest of Honour, and Dr. Richard Reichmann, Executive Director of Leadership House, who delivered a powerful keynote address. Additional insights came from Dr. Laud Anthony Basing, Mr. Stephen Forson of Global Capacity Hub (UK), and Samuel Sasu Adonteng, Chief Technical Officer of the All-Africa Students’ Union (AASU).
Speakers encouraged students to embrace confidence and authenticity in shaping their career paths, sharing personal experiences that emphasized vision, leadership, and resilience.
The success of Engineers’ Festival 2025 marks a significant milestone for the College of Engineering. Thanks to the efforts of GESA, the festival has set a strong foundation for a culture that blends excellence with identity, and celebration with inspiration — a tradition that will surely grow stronger in the years ahead.
