College of Engineering, KNUST Engages with GRIDCo on Engineering Training and Collaboration

 

A discussion was held between the management team of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the KNUST College of Engineering (CoE) on improving engineering education and training and building a strong collaboration with GRIDCo.

In his presentation, the Provost of the College of Engineering (CoE), Prof. Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko, mentioned that the College focuses on impactful research, strengthening the engagement between industry and academia, and building an endowment fund to enhance postgraduate engineering education. 

He appreciated GRIDCo for donating GHC 500,000.00 to the KNUST College of Engineering Endowment Fund and the continued provision of internship opportunities to the students and faculty members of the College.

He intimated that both CoE and GRIDCo could have other collaborative opportunities in the following areas:

  • Having adjunct lecturers from GRIDCo share their rich industry experience with the students.
  • Building a KNUST GRIDCo Centre of Excellence
  • Mobilising the CoE Alumni in GRIDCo for monthly contributions to the Endowment Fund
  • Providing continuous internship opportunities.

He indicated that a strengthened collaboration with GRIDCo will mutually benefit Ghana's socio-economic development and the subregion. 

The GRIDCo team, led by the Chief Executive, Ing. Ebenezer Kofi Essienyi, assured GRIDCo’s continuous support and collaboration.

Both teams visited Levine Hall in the College of Engineering to explore the possibility of GRIDCo refurbishing it into a GRIDCo Board Room for the College.

The GRICO team toured the KNUST Engineering Education Project (KEEP), building upon an earlier commitment to the College to equip the Power Systems Lab. The GRIDCo team also used the opportunity to visit the land allocated to host the proposed KNUST GRIDCo Centre of Excellence building.
