Management of the College of Engineering including the Provost, Prof. Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko, the College Registrar, Dr. Paul Kwadwo Addo and other key members have met and interacted with international students at the College. The meeting which took place on Thursday, 12th March 2026 at the Levine Conference room emphasized academic excellence, cultural inclusion, and strong institutional support to ensure a rewarding educational experience at the College and KNUST at large.

The meeting brought together students from several African countries, including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Gabon, Gambia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The gathering served as an opportunity to interact with the students to understand their expectations, and address challenges faced by these international students.
Many of the students confirmed they chose to study at KNUST because of the University’s strong academic standing and international recognition, the growing reputation of its engineering programs and recommendations from alumni. Several students also cited the influence of the Mastercard Foundation scholarship program, which supports students from across Africa.
The College’s leadership highlighted their mission of providing high-quality education and the conduct of research that directly benefits society.
The Provost in his address said that the College aims not only to train students academically but also to prepare them to solve real-world problems, build entrepreneurial skills and become responsible global citizens.

Addressing challenges raised by the international students, the leadership of the College acknowledged that international students often face significant adjustments after leaving their home countries. Cultural differences, language barriers, accommodation concerns, and financial challenges were among the issues discussed during the interactive session.

They were assured that the college would work with industry partners to expand internship placements and provide guidance for the students.
To strengthen the support network for international students, the college announced several initiatives including peer mentorship, improved communication on digital channels, language support and industry networks.
It was also emphasized that students should make full use of campus services such as the student clinic, counselling services, and the Student Affairs Office at the College.

Management of the College urged international students to join professional associations and student clubs within the College. Participation in such groups, they said, helps students build networks, gain leadership experience, and prepare for careers after graduation.
Looking ahead, the college hopes the international students will become long-term ambassadors of the College. They were encouraged to maintain links with the University after graduation and potentially contribute to scholarship funds that could support future students from their home countries.
