The Management of the College of Engineering, in collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineering, has organized a one-day training programme for the cleaners of the College to enhance their knowledge and skills in the proper use of cleaning detergents and chemicals as well as ensuring the overall cleanliness of the College. The training formed part of the College’s efforts to promote safety, efficiency, and high standards of hygiene within the institution.

The programme brought together all cleaners working within the College to educate them on the correct handling, storage, and application of various cleaning agents used in their daily duties. He therefore encouraged the cleaners to carry out their work diligently and wholeheartedly.

Led by a team of facilitators—Prof. Benjamin Afotey,(HoD, Chemical Engineering, Peter Atsu Cudjoe, (Facility Officer, CoE), Mr. Desmond Nkansah, and Mr. Ebenezer Adom, the team provided detailed presentations and practical guidance on the safe use of cleaning detergents. The facilitators educated the participants on the various types of detergents commonly used within the College and explained the specific purposes for which each detergent is suitable. They also highlighted the potential hazards associated with improper handling of chemical substances and demonstrated the correct safety precautions to be observed when using them.

During their presentations, the facilitators emphasized the importance of wearing protective equipment, properly diluting detergents before use, and ensuring that cleaning products are stored safely after use. They further encouraged the cleaners to strictly follow safety guidelines to prevent accidents, injuries, or damage to surfaces and equipment.

Mrs. Elizabeth Amissah, the Faculty Registrar for the Faculty of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering also addressed the participants and advised them to maintain a high level of professionalism in their work. She reminded them that diligence, attention to detail, and consistency in their duties would help prevent complaints and ensure that the College environment remains clean and welcoming at all times. She further encouraged them to take pride in their work, as their efforts contribute greatly to the smooth running of the institution.

In his remarks, Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Adjei, the Faculty Registrar for the Faculty of Civil and Geo Engineering, urged the cleaners to apply the knowledge and skills they had gained from the training in their daily activities. He stressed that the effectiveness of the programme would be reflected in how well the participants implement the safety practices and cleaning techniques they had learned.

The training programme concluded with a call for continuous learning and cooperation among the cleaning staff to maintain a safe and hygienic working environment across the College. Participants expressed appreciation to the College Management for organizing the training and pledged to make good use of the knowledge acquired to improve their work performance.
