CoE joined forces with the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Petroleum Commission (PC), Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC), and the Ministry of Energy (MoEn) to host a two-day technical consultative workshop on the declining crude oil production in Ghana. Held on October 16 and 17, 2024, in Accra, the event provided a platform for experts, policymakers, academia, and industry players to explore actionable solutions to reverse the downward trend in production. The workshop, structured into opening, technical, and closing sessions, was widely covered by media houses in Ghana, underscoring the importance of stakeholder engagement in addressing this critical issue.
KNUST played a pivotal role in the workshop, with its team led by Prof. Francis Kemausuor, who delivered a compelling speech on the need for academia’s involvement in tackling Ghana's energy challenges.
Dr. Kwame Sarkodie presented on the theme "Overcoming Technical Challenges in Crude Oil and Gas Production in Ghana: The Academia Perspective," highlighting innovative approaches from KNUST’s research. The team also included Dr. Yen Adams Sokama-Neuyam, Head of the Department of Petroleum Engineering and a member of the workshop's organising committee, alongside Dr. Stephen Adjei, Dr. Jonathan Atuquaye Quaye, and Dr. Prosper Akaba. Together, they contributed to a robust technical discourse, aligning Ghana's oil sector strategies with global energy transition goals while emphasising the urgency for sustainable resource development.
