On 22nd November 2024, the College of Engineering held its 58th Congregation ceremony at the Great Hall for 2600 graduates from the three faculties: the Faculty of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Faculty of Civil and Geo-Engineering.
The Provost of the College, Prof. Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko, duly constituted the assembly, which marked the ceremony's commencement. Mrs. Ida Saeed, the college's registrar, introduced the valedictorian, Mr. Isaac Jesutofunmi Oniti, a BSc. Computer Engineering degree holder who was the overall best student of the Graduating Class of 2024.
Isaac delivered his valedictorian speech and emphasised the importance of relationships as he conveyed his profound gratitude for his friends’ and teachers’ contributions to his success. He urged his peers to go into the world, grab every opportunity that comes their way, and make a real difference.
The motivational speaker for the day was Ing. Dr. Clifford A. Braimah, the Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), who challenged the graduates to make every opportunity count as they leave the walls of KNUST.
The provost provided a report on the activities in the college to all and sundry and highlighted the various feats achieved by faculty. On the graduation statistics of the college, the congregation saw 2600 graduates, with the distribution as follows: 717 with first-class honours (27.58%), 1301 with second-class upper division (50.04%), 565 with second-class lower division (21.73%) and 17 with a pass (0.65%). Of this number, 532 (20.46%) are females and 2068 (79.54%) are males.
The provost finally thanked the college's stakeholders, bringing the ceremony to an eventful end. The graduates joined their families and friends in joyous celebrations.
