In his welcome address, Prof. Lawrence Darkwah, Coordinating Dean of the KNUST Obuasi Campus and Senior Lecturer at the Chemical Engineering Department, mentioned that lithium had become a renowned resource due to the world’s desire for renewable energies and electric vehicles. He said an overview of the current dynamics of lithium by the mining expert gives participants insights and an understanding of the subject matter.

In his presentation, Ing. Antwi highlighted ways academia and industry can collaborate to solve challenging problems in the mining sector. He emphasised the importance of Lithium to Ghana’s economy, as traces of Lithium deposits could be found across the country.

He asserted that the government needs to do more to explore its minerals, especially lithium since it has become a distinct mineral. He stated that until Ghana’s minerals are explored, investors will continue to dictate the fiscal terms of their revenue.
