As part of the strategy to achieve the Vice-Chancellor’s Vision 2020-2024 Action Plan under the Human Capital Development & Staff Welfare, The College of Engineering scheduled a retreat from 6th to 9th December, 2023, at Maaha Beach Resort in the Western Region of Ghana.

 

The retreat was under the theme “Engineering Innovations: a synergy between Academia and Industry for Ghana's Development,” which reflects our commitment to fostering more robust partnerships between academia and industry to drive technological advancements and national development.

The retreat provided a platform for Senior Members of the College to reflect, collaborate and exchange ideas with industry leaders on promoting engineering innovation in Ghana. It also allowed staff to network with invited industry partners and explore potential partnerships and research opportunities.

The College invited some nominees (Industrial partners) from GRIDCo, VRA, Ghana Water Company Limited, and Ghana Gas who served as resource persons on discussions centered around academia-industry collaborations. There was an opportunity for participants to learn more about innovative research at the College of Engineering and potential collaborative research with our industrial partners. There was also a session where the Provost shared his vision and faculty discussed and put together a strategic plan to achieve intended goals.

 

This was a valuable investment in the future of engineering innovations spearheaded by academia-industry efforts in Ghana.

During the retreat, some participants paid a courtesy visit to Ghana Gas Company Limited whilst others together with their families visited Nzulezu and Maaha Village. There were activities and programmes that catered to different groups to relax, create lasting memories, and build bonds.

The College of Engineering acknowledges the Chairman and members of the Retreat Committee for their immense contribution to its success. Also, the College is particularly grateful to Ghana Gas, Company Limited, GRIDCo, VRA, Associated Consultants, the Colleges African Centres of Excellence (KEEP, RWESCK, TRECK), TBHEC and WASCAL for their financial support.
