Prof Francis Kemausuor, Dean of FMCE, attended the maiden in-person meeting of the African Institute for Sustainable Energy and Systems Analysis (AISESA) in Cape Town, South Africa between 17 and 19 September 2024.
AISESA is a transdisciplinary and international collective of knowledge creation experts on African energy and development from academia, NGOs, the public and the private sector. AISESA’s mission is to become the premier institution to enable Africa-focused evidence-based energy system decisions and partnerships that drive sustainable and resilient development in Africa.
The meeting discussed AISESA’s vision, goals and values in the context of the energy, climate and development nexus in Africa and started the development of a work programme. It proposed and adopted a draft Institutional and governance structure for AISESA; and deliberated on funding and scaling strategy. The meeting eulogized the role of the late Prof Abeeku Brew-Hammond, founding Director of The Brew-Hammond Energy centre, KNUST, for his works that culminated in the formation of AISESA.
