Oniti Jesutofunmi Isaac, a 19-year-old Nigerian, has proven that determination and faith can transform challenges into extraordinary achievements. Born and raised in Nigeria, his journey took a pivotal turn when he relocated to Ghana. From a young age, Jesutofunmi faced significant health challenges that shaped his outlook on life. Overcoming these trials instilled in him a deep gratitude and resilience—values that guided him throughout his journey.
Jesutofunmi’s academic journey in Ghana began at Alpha Beta Christian College, where he pursued the rigorous Cambridge IGCSE syllabus. Adapting to this new curriculum was no small feat, but he rose to the occasion, acquiring critical skills that set the foundation for his future success. After a year, he transitioned to Seven Great Princes Academy Senior High School, where he took on the WASSCE syllabus. Missing S.H.S 1 meant catching up on a voluminous syllabus—a challenge he tackled with unwavering determination. Through hard work and persistence, Jesutofunmi excelled, graduating as the best student in his class with an impressive six A’s and two B’s.
Initially aspiring to study medicine, Jesutofunmi nurtured a passion for programming and software development. When he was offered the opportunity to study Computer Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), he saw it as the perfect blend of his interests in hardware, software, robotics, and programming.
KNUST, renowned for its commitment to SDG 4 – Quality Education, became the stage for Jesutofunmi’s academic brilliance. Starting with a CWA of 84.06 after his first semester, he faced challenges and triumphs throughout his journey. His third year marked his peak performance, with a CWA of 87.47, culminating in an outstanding final CWA of 87.23—earning him all A’s throughout his four years.
Jesutofunmi attributes his success to his willingness to learn, his pursuit of excellence, and his dedication to teaching others. He often held tutorials for his peers, engaging in one-on-one sessions to deepen his understanding—living by the principle that teaching is the best way to learn.
He is deeply grateful to his coursemates and friends—Federal Sedinam, Kyei Jeffrey (Genesis), Chiamaka, George, Kay, Michael Ferka, Elom, Asidigbe Emmanuel, and Stephanie—for their motivation and companionship throughout his journey.
Outside academics, Jesutofunmi finds joy in playing chess and table tennis. A proud moment in his life was representing his high school in a table tennis tournament. He has also found fulfilment in teaching and sharing knowledge, which allows him to give back while continuing to learn.
Balancing hard work with rest and cherishing meaningful relationships, Jesutofunmi believes that life is more than achievements—the people and experiences make the journey worthwhile.
Jesutofunmi’s story is one of faith and perseverance. From overcoming childhood challenges to excelling in academics, his journey inspires others to push boundaries and embrace opportunities.
Today, he stands as the Valedictorian of the College of Engineering, KNUST, and the Overall Best Graduating Student of the Class of 2024 at the 58th Congregation, with a record-breaking CWA of 87.23.
As he embarks on the next chapter of his life, Jesutofunmi remains hopeful for the future, committed to making a positive impact, and forever grateful for the experiences that have shaped him.
