PROFILE OF ING KWABENA  BEMPONG

 

For undergraduate graduations, the college selects a well seasoned alumnus to motivate graduating students. This year’s chosen alumnus is Ing. Kwabena Bempong who completed with a BSc. (Hons) in Civil Engineering in 1993. He worked as a teaching assistant in the Soils/Foundation Engineering section of the Civil Engineering Faculty for a year after which he joined the Associated Consultants Limited as an Assistant Engineer in 1995. He pursued further studies in Road Engineering, at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft)/IHE in the Netherlands, where he was awarded a Master of Science degree with honours in Road and Pavement Engineering in 1998.

He returned to Associated Consultants ltd, became a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering in 1999 and was promoted to the grade of Engineer. He is a member of the Institute of Directors, Ghana, rose through the ranks to become a Principal Consultant and a management member of Associated Consultants Ltd., and in January 2023 was appointed Chief Executive Officer of  the aforementioned company. He also serves as a Board Member of the company in the capacity of Executive Director.

He is the immediate past president of the Ghana Institution of Engineering and currently the President of the Ghana Consulting Engineers Association. Ing Bempong is an active alumnus who has the college at heart. He has participated in many college and University activities including the College’s Alumni Connect, serving as a mentor. He made it a point o be present at the maiden edition of the college’s homecoming, and was also the speaker for the 11th Global KNUST Biennial Alumni Congress as part of the KNUST @ 70 Alumni celebrations in Accra on 1st December 2021.

His generosity extends beyond his alma mater. He was the speaker for the 13th College of Basic and Applied Sciences, University of Ghana, Legon (CBAS) Public Lecture series in September 2022. He continues to participate in media engagements and discussions on National and International issues.

Ing Bempong has undertaken several design and supervision assignments in Highway and Structural Engineering over the past Thirty years. Notable among them are the flagship Pokuase Interchange and Local Roads project which was awarded the highly commendable Project of the year award at the Fidic Contract Users conference in London for the year 2022. He is also behind the  Circle to Achimota dual carriageway including the Alajo Interchange, Angloga junction to Asokwa and Lake Roads, the Asokwa Interchange in Kumasi, Abuakwa – Bibiani Roads, BRT infrastructure on the Amasaman to Accra CBD corridor, Transport Terminals at Achimota, Odawna, Neoplan station, Ofankor and Amasaman. He has designed and supervised various buildings for Trasacco Housing development, Regimanuel Gray Estate Company limited including the East Airport Development, Klagon & Cty 13 RSS Housing projects, Ayimensah and Oyarifa Park Developments, Libi Homes and Towers, Trasacco Park and Akaya Developments and many other residential/commercial buildings.

He is currently the Chief Resident Engineer for the Ashaiman to Akosombo Dual carriageway, Ofankor to Nsawam, Accra-Tema Motorway expansion projects and the Project Director for Suame Interchange Development. We must say we are extremely proud to call him our alumnus.
