Final-year students at the KNUST College of Engineering defended their undergraduate projects, a tradition marking the culmination of years of hard work before exams begin on Monday, 18th August 2025.
One after another, bright minds took the stage, passionately presenting their research, demonstrating ingenious prototypes, and impressing faculty with their creativity. But one team, in particular, left everyone in awe, a group of Automobile Engineering students who transformed a petrol-powered car into a fully functional electric vehicle.
Their project is a bold step toward sustainable mobility in Ghana. Imagine an everyday car, once reliant on fossil fuels, now humming quietly, powered by clean energy. This innovation speaks to a greener future for Ghana’s roads.
Meanwhile, Aerospace Engineering students unveiled an AI-powered drone designed to detect illegal mining sites nationwide. Using advanced image classification technology, the drone could become a game-changer in Ghana’s fight against galamsey, providing real-time monitoring of hard-to-reach areas. In a nation where illegal mining threatens water bodies and farmlands, this innovation offers a high-tech ally in preserving Ghana’s natural resources.
As the College wraps up another successful project defence season, we’re reminded that our students are visionaries, problem-solvers, and the engineers of tomorrow.
