On 14th February 2025, 2nd year Telecommunications Engineering students visited Prempeh I Airport in Kumasi as part of a field trip to gain practical insights into telecommunications systems that support airport management. The trip allowed students to acquire direct experience and knowledge crucial to their studies. Throughout the visit, the students observed various telecommunications technologies in action, enhancing their understanding of the subject. This hands-on experience was vital in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications.
During the visit, students examined several critical systems, including Air Traffic Control, which relies on extensive telecommunications to maintain communication with aircraft and ensure safe landings and take-offs. They also learned about the importance of CCTV and surveillance systems, which depend on robust telecommunication infrastructure for effective airport security. The insights gained from observing these systems underscored the integral role of telecommunications in facilitating safe and efficient airport operations. Overall, the field trip significantly enriched the students' understanding of how telecommunications engineering principles are applied in real-life scenarios.
