"She Can 3.0" Event Celebrates Women in Engineering at KNUST

 

On July 26, 2024, the Women in Engineering (WinE), KNUST Chapter, organised "She Can 3.0." themed "Understanding and Embracing the Female Engineer Within" at the Kumapley Auditorium at the College of Engineering, KNUST. The events began with the SHECodes Club exhibition, showcasing innovative projects by female students of the College of Engineering.
Gracia Tabil, Vice President of WinE, KNUST Chapter, delivered a warm welcome address, setting the stage for the day’s activities.

A highlight of the event was a panel discussion moderated by Ms. Marydoe Martey, featuring established women engineers like ⁠Ing. Mrs. Alberta Amankwaa, Ing Mrs. Deborah Adjej, Ing Ellen Serwaa Kontoh, ⁠Dominica Abena Oforiwaa Amanfo, ⁠Joseph Awuah Baffour and Natalie Abena Adu as panellists. The discussion provided valuable insights into thriving in engineering despite underrepresentation and highlighted essential skills for future engineers.
The audience enjoyed various performances, including a modelling segment, spoken word by Jephtahlyn and Louisa, and a powerful drama presentation. The WinE Dance Crew's groundbreaking performance electrified the crowd.

The event also featured the presentation of citations and the prestigious WinE Excellence Awards, celebrating the outstanding achievements of female engineers.
The WinE executives, led by President Josephine Nana Adwoa Asmah, presented a “State of WinE Address,” outlining their numerous accomplishments. These included successful collaborations. The team worked with Guinness Ghana PLC for a seminar celebrating International Women’s Day and with Arm(E3)NGAGE for a skills training event for International Women in Engineering Day. They also organised an outreach with TCC to visit basic schools in Ahodwo under the theme “Enhanced by Engineering,” encouraging young girls to pursue engineering.
