Engineering Council Board Chair Returns Home: "I Didn't Know the College Was This Innovative

Dr. Ing. Sitsofe David Addo's powerful message: "Don't leave this country because of money.
It's a bad decision."
Friday 30th January 2026 Dr. Addo, Board Chair of the Engineering Council, Ghana, returned to his alma mater and discovered a transformation that left him genuinely amazed.

What began as a courtesy call on the Provost, Prof. Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko, turned into an eye-opening journey through innovation. "Over the years a lot of things have changed," Dr. Addo shared. "I've gone to a few labs in the College this morning. I'm overwhelmed."
Guided by Prof. Nyarko and the College Alumni Relations/Industrial Liaison Officer, Afia K. A. Agyenim Boateng, Dr. Addo explored a couple of spaces that embody the College’s commitment to cutting-edge research and practical solutions.
At the KNUST-College of Engineering Innovation Centre, the Manager, Mr. Makafui Bedzra introduced him to ongoing projects and emerging solutions, with live demonstrations of innovations at the prototype stage.
At the DIPPER Lab, Scientific Director, Prof. Eric Tutu Tchao and Lab Fellow Dr. Enoch Bessah presented mind-blowing work, including FarmSense - developed in collaboration with Sesi Technologies to address real agricultural challenges.

Dr. Addo's reaction was one of genuine pride and pleasant surprise. "I didn't know that the college is innovative and doing a lot of good works over here," he admitted. "I'm happy I came here, I'll come back again. I'm impressed about the new innovations that I didn't know." His enthusiasm was palpable, and his visit reinforced what many of us already know - the College of Engineering is a hub of creativity, problem-solving, and real-world impact.

Dr. Addo didn't just observe; he committed to action. Inspired by innovations like FarmSense and other cutting-edge projects, he pledged to actively seek partnerships, sponsorships, and support for the amazing work happening at the College. "For me, I want to promote you people, look for partnerships," he emphasized, recognizing that these innovations deserve broader recognition and backing.

His most striking message was, "don't leave this country because of money. It's a bad decision."
Dr. Addo challenged the notion that greener pastures only lie abroad, reminding young engineers that meaningful impact, fulfilment, and opportunity exist right here at home, especially with institutions like the College of Engineering driving innovation and change.
