In the bustling Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Civil and Geo-Engineering, efficiency and order are paramount. At the heart of this operational success is Mrs Gifty Edem Senyaglo, a Senior Administrative Assistant whose story is one of remarkable determination, proving that with hard work and perseverance, one can truly shape one's own destiny.
Since joining the College of Engineering, Mrs. Senyaglo has been the linchpin of the Faculty’s administrative machinery. Her role is multifaceted: she expertly manages student services, oversees official correspondence, maintains meticulous records, and coordinates daily office activities, enabling academic staff to focus on teaching and research. By ensuring a well-organised and professional environment, she directly enhances the College’s operational effectiveness and service delivery.
A proud product of KNUST’s basic education system, Mrs. Senyaglo’s academic path began at the KNUST Community Centre and University Primary School. She continued at Technology Secondary School (now KNUST SHS). Her pursuit of excellence led her to earn an HND in Secretarial and Management Studies from Kumasi Polytechnic (K-Poly) and later, a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management from the KNUST Business School. This blend of practical and academic training laid the groundwork for her future career.
Mrs. Senyaglo’s journey within KNUST is nothing short of inspirational. She joined the University in 2003 as a Campus Guard Grade II under the Security Services. However, even in that role, her potential was undeniable. She consistently took on administrative tasks—writing reports, typing, filing, and managing correspondence—far beyond her official duties, demonstrating a passion for organisation and a proactive spirit.
Recognising the need for formal qualifications to transition into her desired field, she pursued continuous self-improvement, completing NVTII and WASSCE examinations and private secretarial certifications. With the crucial support of her then Head of Department, her dedication paid off when she was formally redesignated from Security Personnel to Administrative Assistant. Her excellence in this new capacity led to several promotions, and she served in roles aligned with administrative responsibilities for over a decade before moving to the Department of Agriculture and Agribusiness Extension. There, she once again showcased her adaptability, quickly mastering the nuances of student administration in a new academic environment.
For the past four years, the College of Engineering has been the beneficiary of Mrs. Senyaglo’s dedication. Her experience and steady hand have been invaluable. She doesn't just perform tasks; she strengthens the entire administrative structure, ensuring it remains professional, responsive, and supportive of both staff and students.
Mrs. Senyaglo’s journey from Campus Guard to Senior Administrative Assistant is a powerful testament to what can be achieved with focus and an unwavering commitment to growth. She serves as a living example for students and colleagues alike, embodying the very spirit of resilience the College seeks to foster.
When reflecting on her path, she does so with profound gratitude: “Ebenezer, this is how far the Lord has brought me.” The College of Engineering celebrates Mrs Gifty Edem Senyaglo for her service, inspiring story, and ongoing contributions to our community.
