The Provost, Prof. Kwabena Britwum Nyarko, and Management of the KNUST College of Engineering recently held a meeting with course representatives of the College to discuss student engagement, leadership responsibilities, and ways to improve the overall academic experience within the college. The interactive session allowed students to share their concerns with management while management provided guidance on how representatives can better serve their peers.

During the meeting, the Provost thanked them for the supportive role they provide in the teaching and learning space and assured course representatives that they would receive certificates of appreciation by the end of their tenure in recognition of their service and dedication to student leadership. He emphasized the importance of student participation in extracurricular activities, encouraging representatives to motivate their colleagues to join at least one student club and contribute to strengthening club activities within the college. They were also encouraged to undertake internships to give more practical experience.
The Provost also sought the views of course representatives on student attendance and participation in lectures. He encouraged them to bring issues of absenteeism to the attention of management and advised that students facing personal challenges should be directed to the student affairs office and the college counselor to ensure their well-being.

Another key topic discussed was enhancing student engagement and productivity. The Provost urged students to adopt a positive attitude toward programs organized for them and to make the most of opportunities provided by the college.

The discussion also highlighted the role students can play in addressing certain challenges within the college.

Course representatives took the opportunity to present several challenges they face in their roles. Management acknowledged these concerns and assured the students that the issues raised would be reviewed and addressed. The Provost further encouraged students to maintain a spirit of giving by supporting the college through donations after graduation as alumni.

Dr. Paul Kwadwo Addo, the College Registrar, also addressed the gathering, urging students to carefully read the Student Guide and Code of Conduct and encouraging course representatives to check on colleagues who frequently miss lectures. He emphasized the importance of completing the assessments of the teaching and learning process for improvement.
In addition, the Registrar reminded course representatives to demonstrate good conduct and exemplary behavior, noting that strong character is essential for effective leadership. He encouraged representatives to ensure that course outlines are received at the beginning of the semester and shared with their classmates.

The GESSA president, Mr. Owusu Steven, also spoke at the meeting, expressing appreciation to the Provost and the College Management for the initiative to award certificates to course representatives and also for encouraging collaboration between course reps and GESSA leadership.

The College Registrar concluded by informing students about the college’s upcoming 75th anniversary celebration and encouraged them to stay updated by following the KNUST/College official social media platforms for accurate and authentic information.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both management and student leaders reaffirming their commitment to working together to improve the academic environment, strengthen student leadership, and improve the overall student learning experiences.
