The KNUST College of Engineering organised a transformative three-day workshop designed to empower and enhance the professional competencies of all its Administrative Assistants. The programme, focused on excellence in service delivery, advanced documentation, and a deep understanding of university policies, brought together staff from the Faculty of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Faculty of Civil and Geo-Engineering.The workshop was sponsored by the KNUST Engineering Education Project (KEEP)

The workshop featured esteemed experts who delivered insightful and practical sessions. Mr. Festus Nyame, Esq., Deputy Registrar at the KNUST Business School, guided participants through the intricacies of professional writing and interpersonal effectiveness.

His session on memorandum and report writing provided a clear structure, style and framework. Mr. Nyame emphasized that well-crafted memos are powerful tools for driving positive change, encouraging collaborative drafting to address challenges and propose solutions for developmental projects. Through a hands-on brainstorming session, participants identified real issues within the College and collaboratively drafted memos to address them.

Further enriching the training, Mr. Nyame led discussions on drafting thorough investigative and disciplinary reports, underpinned by strong ethical considerations. He also delved into the critical role of Emotional Intelligence in the workplace, sharing valuable strategies for managing emotions in stressful situations. His framework, encompassing self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and social skills, provided attendees with essential tools for navigating complex professional environments.

In a session focused on the future of administrative work, Mr. Emmanuel Efum-Mensah, System Analyst of the University Information Technology Services (UITS), introduced participants to the potential of advanced AI tools. He provided a forward-looking training on how these technologies can be leveraged to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and innovate daily administrative tasks.
